Taylor Heisley-Cook, Co-founder, CEO. Taylor worked in the materials and sustainability department of an apparel brand. Master of Environmental Science and Management from UCSB Bren School, where she specialized in Corporate Environmental Management and focused in Eco-Entrepreneurship. The Hurd Co grew out of her and David’s thesis work during graduate school. She also has a BA Communications from Northwestern University.

David Mun, Co-founder, COO and CFO. David worked as an analyst at a Sustainable Textile Venture Capital Firm. As stated above, The Hurd Co grew out of his and Taylor’s thesis work at the UCSB Bren School of Environmental Science and Management. He also earned his MESM with a specialization in Corporate Environmental Management and a focus in Eco-Entrepreneurship. BS Environmental Science with a minor in Environmental Engineering from UCLA.

Charles Cai, PhD, CTO. Invented The Hurd Co’s CELF technology as a PhD student at UC Riverside. He is now research faculty at UC Riverside. Forbes 30 under 30. Has taken 2 startups to IPO. 

Michael Gurin, MBA, CSO. A 25-year veteran of technology and business development. He holds more than 80 U.S. patents and pending applications, plus additional international patent filings. His inventions include a core thermal engine technology, supercritical power generating cycles, dynamic systems controls, and technology extensions of a NASA-licensed supercritical air conditioning / refrigeration absorption system.  MBA in Corporate Finance and Venture Capital from Michigan Ross.

Ciara Cates, VP Business Development. Prior to working as a textile developer and materials manager for Toad&Co and Patagonia, Ciara worked in business development at Lenzing, the largest US-based and fifth-largest global fiber manufacturer. MS in Textile Chemistry from NCSU (expected winter 2020).
